Looking Back at 2022: A Comprehensive Yearly Recap with PCDJ

Over 24 years ago, a couple DJs who happened to be prolific coders had an idea after downloading their first MP3 file…what if we could DJ with these?

That simple idea birthed PCDJ software and a new industry. From early adopters of the technology that stepped outside of their comfort zone over two decades ago, to new DJs seeking quality DJ software solutions they can trust, we have you, our customers, to thank for such a successful run. The good news is we just bought new running shoes for 2023!

As we conclude year 23 for PCDJ, and as we always like to do at years’ end, here’s a look back at some of our accomplishments in 2022. It’s was a highly productive year capped off with DEX 3’s new “Instant Stems” feature called AIUnmixEQ™ , which allows DJs to mix individual elements of any audio or video track.

2022 PCDJ Milestones

• Introduced TIDAL streaming support to DEX 3 , providing DJs with in-app access to a massive selection of music and music videos to enhance their sets.
• Added support for the HD-version of Karaoke Cloud Pro to both DEX 3 and LYRX, providing an alternative karaoke streaming service solution to Party Tyme Karaoke
• Released DEX 3 support for DJ controllers: Numark PartyMix Live and Numark PartyMix MKII
• Added additional internet radio broadcasting options to DEX 3: Shoutcast (MP3) and Icecast2 (MP3) in addition to the existing Icecast2 (OGG/Vorbis)
• DEX 3 received support for audio mix recording to MP3/AAC/FLAC (in addition to the existing WAV/AIFF)
• DEX 3, DEX 3 RE , and LYRX received a major audio engine upgrade. The system was completely redesigned to be more stable and modern. DJs can now use more (different) audio devices at the same time, with a maximum of 3: one that can have both inputs and outputs (just like we already had), another one for headphones and another one for microphones.
• A big quality increase for “High-quality time-stretching” option found in DEX 3 and LYRX (upgrade also applies to the pitch/key shifting/scaling). The quality improvement was significant and can be heard with ease with headphones or with high-volume speakers. Especially if you use bigger time-stretch ratios (eg. more than +/- 8%)
• Sample players were added to LYRX so karaoke hosts can trigger audio samples with a mouse or by assigning to a key-stroke.
• We introduced support for MusicWorx’s Streambox product to DEX 3. One of the most impressive capabilities is that DJs can download as many tracks for offline playback as they wish.
• Many performance improvements and bug fixes across our entire lineup.
• PCDJ also saw longtime partnerships strengthen which means additional DJ controller support on the way and Party Tyme Karaoke will continue to roll out the latest and greatest karaoke tunes.

With 2022 soon to be history, we’re exited to build on momentum in 2023. New features, free updates, new services, and a more are cued up and ready to mix!
